Michelle "Shelly" E. Vigh Van der Essen, 74 of Newburgh, NY passed away on
Sunday, May 8, 2022. The daughter of the late Michael and Kathleen (Burger) Vigh,
she was born in Newburgh, NY on July 25, 1947. Shelly was a 1965 graduate of
Newburgh Free Academy. Her favorite band was The Beatles, who she got to see at
Shea Stadium in 1965. She loved American history and participated in American
Revolution re-enactments. She was also known for her fabulous Christmas parties.
Shelly is survived by her husband, Franklin Peter Van der Essen; two sons,
Michael F. Porter and Christopher P. Van der Essen, both of Newburgh; her
grandchildren, Emily K. Porter, Rowan Moore and Daniel Moore; and her beloved
cat Sasha. Services for Shelly are private. Memorial donations in Shelly's name
may be made to The American Cancer Society. - July 25, 1947 - May 8, 2022
