Shirley Smith Davis - Class of 1952

    Shirley Esther (Smith) Davis of Kingston, NY, loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Mother€™s Day, May 8, 2022 at Kingston Hospital. She was 87. Born on September 28, 1934 in Newburgh, NY to Roy and Loretta Smith, she was a NY Daily News Beauty Pageant winner at age 3. A straight A student, she met the love of her life Ernie Davis, Sr. while roller skating. They married in 1954 enjoying over 67 blissful years together. Shirley worked as a telephone operator, a clerk for the Town of Montgomery, and an assistant in her brother-in-law€™s print shop before retiring and moving from Walden to Kingston. Shirley was also a Girl Scout leader, a PTA leader, a poll worker, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Dutchess County Rug Hooking Guild. She babysat many children who still consider her mom. She had a loving heart and a kind word for everyone. Always graceful and beautiful, Shirley€™s gentle spirit will be missed. Shirley€™s family was the most important thing to her. She adored her children and grandchildren. The birth of her great-grandson Gavin brought her immense joy. Shirley is survived by her husband Ernest Davis, Sr. of Kingston, son Ernest Davis, Jr. and wife Cindi of Wallkill, daughter Belinda Sinnott and husband Mark of Saugerties, grandson Kyle and wife Tiffany of Delmar, grandsons Dorian and Trevor Sinnott of Saugerties, great-grandson Gavin Davis of Delmar, sister Carole and husband Howard €œPike€ Picard, III of Newburgh, niece Danielle Torelli and nephew Tyler Picard. She was pre-deceased by her grandson Jonathan Davis. Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Friday May 13, 2022 from 10am to 12pm with the funeral service taking place at 12pm. Burial will follow in Rosendale Plains Cemetery, Rosendale, NY.
