Margaret A. Allen Ponesse - Class of 1954

Margaret A. “Tootie” Allen Ponesse of New Windsor passed away on May 14, 2022.
She was the daughter of the late Arthur J. Allen and Elizabeth Higgins Allen.
She was born in Newburgh on June 30, 1936. She is survived by her loving husband
Robert V. Ponesse whom she married on April 8, 1956 in the old Sacred Heart
church on Ann Street. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and was selected
“Miss NFA” in 1954. Margaret is survived by her sons Robert A. Ponesse and wife
Kathy, Michael T. Ponesse and wife Colleen. Daughters Elizabeth Ponesse and her
partner Bob Stevens and Nancy Bowman and husband Michael. She was so proud of
the gifts her children gave her, she was blessed with Dara Ponesse, Malory
Ponesse, Robert J. Ponesse and wife Kelsey, Anthony Ponesse and wife Kelsey,
Kaitlyn Ponesse and fiancée Andrew Geider, Michael A. Ponesse and fiancée Hayley
Wright, Jaclyn Bowman, Nicole Chrysler, Gregory Chrysler, Ryan Terwilliger and
great granddaughter Anna Emmalee Ponesse. She is also survived by her
sister-in-law Frieda Formato and brother-in-law Carl Ponesse and many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by her Sister Elizabeth Roberts and husband Norman,
brother John J. Allen and wife Linda, in-laws Thomasina and Frank Tangredi,
Anthony Formato, Louis and Linda Ponesse, Virginia and Tony Martini, Genevieve
and Bill Marotta, Thomas Jr. and Rose Ponesse, Joan Ponesse and nephews Thomas
L. Ponesse and Joseph Marotta. Although not being Italian, she embraced the
family traditions: Macaroni and meatballs, lasagna, Christmas Eve 7 Fish feast
and her many trays of cookies she loved to share, to name a few.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at Brooks Funeral
Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Catholic mass will be held at 11 a.m. on
Friday, May 20 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, with burial following
in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to
Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties. - June 30, 1936 ~ May 14, 2022
