Robert McCoy - Class of 1953

      Robert Parks McCoy of Ormond Beach, Florida and formerly of Newburgh, New York entered into rest on Saturday, June 4, 2022, with his family at his side. "Bob" was 87 years old. The son of the late Harry W. & Margaret P. McCoy, Bob was born on February 8, 1935, in Cornwall, New York. He was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, attended Bradens Preparatory in Cornwall, and then went on to attend and graduate from Ohio Wesleyan University. Throughout his life Bob was active in numerous sports. While at Ohio Wesleyan University, he was named a Small College All-American for Lacrosse, and played ice hockey, as well as basketball. He was President and member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Upon graduation Bob was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was assigned to Amarillo, Texas and then to Lincoln Air Force Base in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following his honorable discharge at the rank of Captain, Bob returned to New York and founded and owned McCoy's Sport Shops in Newburgh, New York for which he was well known. He became extensively involved in the sports industry both locally and globally, expanding his retail operations to additional locations, as well as in service to military posts. Bob enjoyed an active life -building his homes, creative arts, skiing, playing tennis, flying his plane and playing golf. He was a former member of The Powelton Club in Newburgh. He was well-liked and respected by many and enjoyed numerous lifelong friendships. In 1986, Bob married his beloved wife Tammy, with whom he traveled extensively, enjoyed collecting art, playing golf, clearing land and building homes together in New York, Virginia and North Carolina. Bob found great joy and comfort with the devotion, love and care from his wife. He enjoyed spending time with his family, seeing it grow and hearing about their many accomplishments of which he was very proud. Bob is survived by his wife, Tamara (Wood), and four children: his daughter Melissa McCoy (Alan Creais) of Cornwall, NY; stepdaughter Dana Vitulli of St. Augustine, FL; sons Craig McCoy (Kathleen) of Venice, FL; Bill McCoy (partner Shawna Newbern) Aliso Viejo, CA. He had eight loving grandchildren: Courtney Wetzelberger (Fred), Chelsea Rallo (Dominic), Brandon Garzione, Tyler Ulf (Connor), Colby Redman (Connor); step grandchildren: Paul Vitulli, Nick Vitulli & Bella Vitulli; and two great-grandchildren: Jack Wetzelberger and Collins Rallo.

Arrangements will be private. Interment will take place in Daytona, Florida at a future date. The family asks that his memory be honored through a gift to Michael J.
