Richard T. "Moonie" Ray, of Newburgh, NY passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh. He was 49. Son of the late Harold L. and Mary M. Hawkins Ray, he was born on December 12, 1960 at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Richard attended school in the Newburgh School District. He is survived by his companion, Brenda Mercer; sons, Travis and Kyle Ray of Port Charlotte, FL; sisters: Cheryl Canfield of New Windsor, Theresa Ray of Plattekill, and Colleen Caterinicchio and her husband, Lenny of Newburgh; nieces and nephews: Courtney Greene and her husband, Dominick, Heather Walsh and her husband, Tim, Jason, Kevin and Michelle Shader, Maxine Early and Tiffany Ray. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Donald Canfield. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. Memorial visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, contributions on Richard's memory may be made to the Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter, 645 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550. Arrangements by Brooks Funeral Home.
