Hannelore Altstadt - Class of 1967
Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 11/Sep/2022 97.124.226.193
Hannelore “Laurie” Altstadt was a caring sister, aunt, and friend. She left this
world suddenly on September 11, 2022 at the age of 74.
She was the eldest child of Alfred and Martha Altstadt, born on September 1,
1948 in Neu-Seehagen, Germany. After immigrating to the United States, Laurie
grew up and spent the remainder of her life in Newburgh, NY.
She worked at Highland National Bank for many years, but Laurie’s passion was
for her friends and family. She was our unofficial historian. If you couldn’t
remember a distant cousin’s name or when a particular family member married, all
you had to do was ask Laurie. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary and
kept in touch with relatives scattered across the world. If you had a special
day coming up or even a loss in your life, you could be sure to find a card with
Laurie’s flowing script in your mailbox. She prided herself on her literature
collection and was responsible for growing the libraries of her nieces and
nephew and the children of family friends. She could often be found with a cup
of tea and her latest novel that she would then hope to share with someone else.
Laurie is survived by her brother, Manfred, and his wife, Elaine; their
daughters and spouses, Amanda and Christopher Collins and Elizabeth and Ryan
Westervelt; her youngest brother, Ewald Altstadt; his daughters, Adrienne and
Trista Altstadt; her great niece, Violet Collins; and great nephew, Ryan
Westervelt, Jr. - September 1, 1948 ~ September 11, 2022
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, September 17, 2022
from 10:00-11:30 AM with service at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Wallkill
Valley Cemetery in Walden.
