   Shane Peter Maher, of Newburgh, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2006 at the age of 40. Son of William and Patricia Keist Maher, he was born on October 5, 1965 in Newburgh. A family statement reads,"Shane was a loving and caring individual. He was selfless in every-thing he did. We can only pray that he is looking down upon us and watching over the family and friends he enjoyed to be with so much. Shane will be missed dearly." Shane graduated from Newburgh Free Academy with a Regents Honors Diploma in 1984. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from S.U.N.Y. New Paltz in 1995; and was pursuing his Master's Degree in Accounting, also at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz. For those who can remember, Shane was an avid swimmer for the Newburgh Sharks and the Men's Varsity Swim Team at New-burgh Free Academy. Shane was employed by the United States Mint at West Point; and was treasurer of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 3740. Survivors include his devoted parents, William and Patricia; his brother, Sean P. Maher and his wife, Linda of Walden; his sister, Meghan Maher Torres and her husband, Joseph of Marlboro; and his niece and nephew, Madeline and Cody Maher of Walden. Other survivors include his uncle, Francis A. Maher and his wife, Monica of Beacon; his aunt, Doris Maher of Newburgh; and his cousin, Francis A. Maher and his wife, Valerie of Newburgh. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2006 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 in St. Mary's Church, Newburgh, with Father Bill Scafidi officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, New Windsor. Arrangements under the direction of Brooks Funeral Home.
