Brian Sloat - Class of 1958

    Brian D. Sloat of the Town of Newburgh entered into rest on Saturday, November 5,2022 in St. Lukes Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was surrounded by his family. Son of the late Clarence (Buster) Sloat and Eleanor Fisher-Sloat. Brian was born March 4,1940 in Newburgh, NY. Brian was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy class of 1958. After high school he joined the Electricians Union Local 631/363 where he retired after 55 years. He was also a member of the Newburgh Elks Lodge #247. Brian was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Known to his grandchildren as Poppy Sloat. He enjoyed telling stories of his childhood memories of growing up in the City of Newburgh with family and friends. His quick wit and dry sense of humor could put a smile on anyones face. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife Helene Farrett-Sloat of 62 years. Daughter Kim M. Dean and husband Kevin. Son Brian M. Sloat and wife Gina. Daughter Patricia M. Vesely and Paul. Grandchildren Shaylyn Dean, Michael Sloat, Christopher Sloat, Jennifer Sloat, Elizabeth McGinty and Tyler Vesely. Great-Grandchildren Jordan Dean, Anthony Rivera-Sloat and James McGinty. Visitation will be held for family on Friday November 11, 2022 from 12-1:30pm at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave. Newburgh, NY. Followed by a 2pm mass at St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, 145 Benkard Ave. Newburgh, NY. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, 5468 US-9W Newburgh, NY, Saturday November 12,2022 at 11am. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Stjude.org Special Thanks to Arianna Harris for making this difficult time as calming and dignified as possible.
