George "Fran" Kartis,
Sr. George “Fran” Kartis Sr. passed away in Newburgh on Tuesday, November 8. He
was 72 years old. Fran was born in Newburgh on February 2, 1950 to Frank and
Mary Kartis. He married Marilyn Cooper in May of 1996. Fran was a 1968 graduate
of Newburgh Free Academy. He was the president of the Roseton Rod and Gun Club,
and an avid hunter. Fran was a Catholic, and a member of Our Lady of Mercy
Church in Roseton, NY. Fran is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Marilyn
Kartis; son, George Kartis, Jr. and wife Victoria; daughters, Elisha Williams,
Allison Kartis, and Amber Kartis; step-daughter Bridget Foley; sisters, Linda
Saltalamachia and husband John, and Mary Zelez and husband Charles;
granddaughters Alexandra Williams and Bianca Foley; grandsons, David Foley and
Brett Williams; great-grandsons Blake Pena and Reese Williams; and several
aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary (Kelemen)
Kartis; and his beloved nephew, Christopher J. Saltalamachia . Fran was a proud
veteran who was grievously injured when he stepped on a land mine in Viet Nam in
1969. Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Friday, November 11 from
4 - 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, November 12 at 9:30 AM at
St. Mary's Church in Marlboro, followed by burial with military honors at Cedar
Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude
