Herman Howard Jr., affectionately known as "Yogi" to family and friends was born on August 25, 1960, to the Late Herman Howard Sr. and Geraldine Howard.

Herman was raised in Newburgh, NY. He was educated in the Newburgh City School District. In his high school years, he attended Newburgh Free Academy (NFA). He played football for the NFA Gold Backs and had a starting position as a Running Back. He loved basketball and soccer, but football was his first love. After graduating high school, he continued his education at Sullivan Community College.

During his high school and college years is where he met and would later marry his wife, Shawna. They were united in holy matrimony in 1978.

Herman accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined the Mount Carmel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ church in Newburgh, NY. He grew more assertive in his faith and dedication to his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He was ordained by the Northeastern District Assembly as a Deacon on September 15, 1998, therefore given a new title, "Deacon Herman Howard."

He loved his family and loved sports too. Wherever his children played, no matter how far, you could bet your last dollar he was going to be there. He coached Pop Warner football in the Newburgh community for over 20 years and recently held the position of Commissioner of the Newburgh Steeler's  all the while encouraging the youth to be the best they could be.

He labored at different jobs and discovered his love for landscaping through a cousin. Soon after, he founded his own lawn service, which he named John 3:16 Lawn Services. He also was the owner/operator of an independent trucking business that he ran for several years through Sears.

Later in life, health issues forced him to leave his business for something a little less strenuous, therefore, he began working for Thomas O. Miller Company then for Visconti Bus Services. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

Left to cherish his memories, as a dedicated husband, is his loving and devoted wife: Minister Shawna Howard of Newburgh, NY. His three children: Natasha Boone of Fayetteville, NC; Tyrone, and Lateisha Howard of Newburgh, NY. His grandchildren: Marquez, Aurea, Janelle, Kristopher, and Londyn. His nieces and nephews, which he served as a father figure to: Maurice, Shameka, Nicole, Jerry, and Montez. He also was a godfather to one godson:Adam Bowman Jr., of SC. His two loving sisters: Sheila Smith (Troy) of Raleigh, NC, and Matilda Campbell of Newburgh, NY. His loving mother: Geraldine Howard of Newburgh, NY. To her, Howard was her "quintessential superstar son." He was the apple of her eye-who could do no wrong. He was the light to her world! A host of friends, relatives, and his church family.

A special thank you to his nurses: Cain and Walter as well as a special friend: Thomas Whitted.

You ran your race and did well; life will never be the same without you: Husband, Son, Daddy, Grandfather (Pop Pop), Uncle and Brother; we love and will miss you. Rest easy.
