James "Jim" McDonald - Class of 1959

    James "Jim" McDonald, 80 years old, a life long resident of the town of Newburgh, has entered into eternal rest on December 6th, 2022. Jim was born in Newburgh, NY on January 8th, 1942 to Mary (Chappo ) McDonald and John McDonald.Jim was the youngest of 3 boys.

Jim married the love of his life Carol (Boles) McDonald in Newburgh, NY on May 15th, 1966 where they remained blissfully married for 56 years raising their three children. A well educated man, Jim graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, Marist College where he received a masters degree in engineering, and furthered his education at Union College. He spent 32 years working for IBM from where he retired, and after retirement Jim drove for West Point Tours as a bus driver where the school children lovingly gave him the nickname "The 6 flags dancing guy".

Jim was a life member of Dan Leghorn Fire Department and loved serving his community with over 25 years of volunteer service with the fire department. He also served as past president of the town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corp, where he was a life time member. Jim loved his family more than anything else, any holiday, birthday or event, Jim was always there, expressing how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. He loved traveling the world and making memories with his wife.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Carol McDonald; his daughters, Beth Churns of Newburgh, NY and Jennifer McDonald Summers (partner Douglas DeGroat) of Newburgh, NY; and his only son Matthew McDonald (wife Semantha McDonald); as well as 10 grandchildren: Brandon, Joshua ,Caleb, Julia, Valerie, Sage, Sean, Parker, Ashlyn and Antonio James; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and John McDonald, and two older brothers, Bill McDonald and Jack McDonald. Jim will be loved and missed by the many people who were blessed to have him in their lives.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in Westchester, NY.
