Edward Murphy - Class of 1951

    Edward W. Murphy, 89, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 10, 1933 in Newburgh, New York to the late Edward W. and Elizabeth V. (Dowling) Murphy, Sr. On December 21, 1957 he married Catherine C. Joyce who survives. Edward is also survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Bruce) Peterson of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, one son, Christopher Murphy of Chicago, Illinois, one grandchild, Seneca Peterson of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, one sister, Susan Hook of Mansfield, Texas and one sister-in-law, Margot Murphy of Bossier City, Louisiana. Edward was also preceded in death by one brother William Murphy. Edward was an Aviator in the United States Coast Guard for twenty-four years. After retiring from the coast guard, he became a pathologist assistant at the South Bend Clinic. Edward received his B.H.S. degree in 1981 from Duke University. He was a long-time member of the local YMCA, an enthusiastic Piano player and longtime season ticket holder to the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
