Carole Linfante Joy - Class of 1950

Carole Jean Linfante Joy, (89), a lifelong resident of
Newburgh, NY, passed away on December 23, 2022. Carole was
born on February 19, 1933 to Carl and Alvina Linfante.
Carole was a dedicated and passionate pianist who spent
hours practicing. Already an accomplished pianist, after
graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1950, Carole
continued studying piano at Mount St. Mary College and in
New York City. While never leaving her piano skill' behind,
she went on to work at St. Luke's Hospital Records
Department where she met her good friend, and mentor,
Florence Mierzeski. She married Ronald Joy in November,
1953, he, too, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, with whom
she had five children; James, Leslie Anne, Kevin, Ron and
Carla. After years as a homemaker, Carole joined the
workforce and began working at the local Hallmark store and
then in the Newburgh Schools. Carole was very kind and
thoughtful, sending cards for every occasion and Commodore
chocolate for Christmas and Easter. Carole spent most
Sundays after church cooking sauce, meatballs and braciole
for Sunday dinner. She spoke often of the people she knew
growing up in her parents' restaurant on Washington Street
in Newburgh. She was an honorary Irishwoman participating in
the St. Patrick's Day escapades along with her husband and
brother-in-law, Bob. Carole was predeceased by her brother
James, her daughter Leslie and her husband Ron. She is
survived by her beloved step-brother, Father Jerry Orsino,
Eagle Pass Texas; her children, James Joy and wife, MaryAnn
of Newburgh; Kevin Joy, of Newburgh; Ron Joy and wife Maria
of New City; and Carla and her husband, Nick Karnavezos of
New Windsor; grandchildren, Leslie, Christine (Doug), Joe
(Sarah), Nickolas, Andonia, Riley and great grand-daughter,
Giavanna. - February 19, 1933 ~ December 23, 2022
A viewing will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney
Avenue, Newburgh on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 4 -7
pm and a mass at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh on
Thursday, December 29 at 10 am. Burial will follow in
Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of
Orange & Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh.
