John E. Dunphy, of the Town of Newburgh, NY entered
into eternal rest on February 6, 2023 at his home surrounded
by his loving family. He was 69 years old. The son of the
late Richard Dunphy and Kathleen (O'Sullivan) Dunphy, John
was born on November 6, 1953 in Anchorage, AK. John proudly
graduated from Orange County Community College with a degree
in Business. A hard-working professional, he never missed a
day of work to provide a beautiful life for his family. John
retired as a Supervisor from Roadway Trucking in Montgomery,
NY and was also a previous co-owner of the Maplehurst Inn in
Cornwall, NY. Growing up, John was able to travel the world
with his family as his father was a member of the U.S.
Military. He lived in both America and Ireland throughout
his years and was very proud of his Irish/American heritage.
John made the most of his life purposely, daily. He woke up
every morning happy, truly happy to be alive. John thrived
to go out into the world and be in the company of family and
friends. His "bigger than life" smile and great sense of
humor filled any room with fun energy. This man never met a
stranger. If you didn't know him when you came in, you were
friends when you left. John always said, "Kids, always know
the name of the janitor and the CEO, neither is more or less
important. Remember that." John had a helping hand, always.
If he could, he would. And he'd always accept an apology
that was true. "It's water under the bridge." He understood
that we are all human, we all make mistakes, we learn, we
grow, we become a better person. "Never knock yourself if
you learned something." John's family enjoys joking about
what a gossiper he was. Whether he was hearing or telling
it, John loved a juicy story which is probably why he was so
incredible to talk to. Both a storyteller and an active
listener, John was always there to give his advice and
always had an open ear and a shoulder to lean on. John was a
good man. He will be missed greatly by all that were lucky
enough to know and love him. John is survived by his wife:
Bonnie J. Dunphy at home; his daughters: Christina L.
Nichirco and Sharon M. Dunphy-Lynn; his sisters: Mary
Clifford, Kathleen M. Smith, and Noreen Dietz.
Grandchildren: Paige Skylar Reiss, Colin Christopher Reiss,
Christopher P. Lynn Jr. and Jason Michael Nichirco Jr.
Step-Children: Clayton Hegarty, Suzanne Tello and Megan
Gilman. Step-Grandchildren: Aiden DeMarino, Justyn Tello,
Sienna Tello, Kase Gillman, Myles Gillman, Lacey Hegarty and
many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his
brothers-in-law, Gary Smith and Peter Marino, and their
loving dog, Brutus.
