Orvetta Parks Palmer - Class of 1949

    Orvetta Palmer, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, March 23, 2023. She was 91. Daughter of the late Harvey and Sadie (Pursell) Parks, she was born on October 2, 1931, in the Town of Newburgh. She was a retired cook for the Newburgh Enlarged School District, Newburgh. Orvetta was a member and 1st Lady of the First Congregational Church in Newburgh, where she also taught Sunday School for many years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed cooking, especially baking. Survivors include a daughter, Alice and her husband, Pastor Glenn Looney of the Town of Newburgh; three grandchildren, Jennipher Looney, Christina, and her husband Kris Stein, and James Looney; four great grandchildren, Christian Landrum, Hunter Storminger, Izabella Storminger and Thorin Stein; and one nephew, William and his wife Donna Stein and his children. In addition to her parents Orvetta was predeceased by her husband, The Reverend George Palmer in 2014, and two sisters, Louise Lewis and Beatrice Parks.

           Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the First Congregational Church, 44 Liberty Street (Washington Heights), Newburgh, NY 12550. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, at the Church, with Pastor Rich Letts officiating. Burial will follow at the Gardnertown Cemetery, Newburgh, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Orvetta’s memory can be made to the First Congregational Church at the above address.
