Louis Arrotta - Class of 1954

Louis Joseph Arrotta (Coach Lou) of the Town of Newburgh,
lifetime area resident, died on April 7, 2023 in
Westchester, and has now joined "his field of dreams." He
was 86.
Son of the late Louis and Accursia Guardino Arrotta, he was
born August 3rd, 1936 in Newburgh.
He retired from IBM in 1990 where he held various positions
in management and personnel. After retiring from IBM, Mr.
Arrotta was a baseball coach at Mount St. Mary College in
Newburgh until retirement in 2001. Lou was inducted into the
MSMC Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
Mr. Arrotta graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1954 and
served in the Armed Forces with the 11th Airborne Division.
Following military service, he plated semi-professional
baseball for the Shapiro/Dodger Jewels and the Kingston
Yankees. He was one of the organizers and first coaches of
the Hudson Valley Rookie baseball league. During his
lifetime he coached baseball for 43 years, which included 28
years coaching American Legion baseball. He also worked as
an athletic trainer at West Point and was a former associate
baseball scout.
Active in the community, he was a former chairman of the
Town of Newburgh Recreation Commission and Town of Newburgh
Recreation Advisory Board, former president and coach of the
Town of Newburgh Little League, and former director and
coach for Newburgh Pop Warner football. He was also a
founding member and superintendent for construction in the
Town of Newburgh Little League Baseball site.
Past memberships included New York State Recreation and
Parks Association, Hudson Valley Leisure Services, Our Lady
of Hope Center and the American Baseball Coaches
Association.
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey Louis and his wife
Laura of Palm Harbor, Florida; David Steven of Budd Lake,
New Jersey and his children, Michael and Alexander; his
sister Helene Brown of Helena, Montana; former spouse and
longtime friend, Elizabeth Dellamarco Bera; as well as his
many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son,
Stephen Anthony and brother-in-law Robert Brown.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13th, 2023 from
4:00 PM to 7:00PM at Brooks Funeral Home located on 481
Gidney Avenue, Newburgh NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday,
April 14th, 2023 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church
located at 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh, NY, followed by
military honors after Mass.
At Lou's request please wear something comfortable and be
