Terry Michael Walsh Sr., son of Michael Francis and Evelyn Marjorie (Terry) Walsh, died on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. Born on November 18, 1945, Terry was a lifelong resident of Newburgh. At Newburgh Free Academy, Terry excelled in baseball and basketball. He would keep and follow this passion for sports throughout his life. He was a die-hard NY Yankees fan. It was a common sight to see Terry swinging his personalized Louisville Slugger, even in the living room mirror, and, more often than not, saying, "That one was over the fence!" He loved the NBA and NCAA basketball, and he always said that March Madness was the most exciting time of the year. Following graduation from NFA, at age 18, Terry served his country in the United States Army and was deployed to Germany as a Military Police (MP) Officer during the Vietnam War. Terry always prided himself on the role he played, not only maintaining order, but also supporting the morale of his Army brothers while organizing and playing many a basketball game. As a young man Terry aspired to follow in his father's footsteps, becoming a boilermaker for Boilermakers Local Lodge No. 5 in New York when he returned home from deployment. Along with his Local 5 brothers, Terry was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, dedicating his career to his work in this trade union. Terry is survived by his beloved children Cara Susan Walsh and Terry Michael Walsh Jr., the mother of his children Patricia Walsh, dear sister Michelle Walsh-Card, aunts Marion Ethel (Babe) Sgro and Linda Manzo, brothers-in-law Michael Smith and Robert Smith, sister-in-law Bernadette Smith, nephews and nieces Christopher Milite, Kayla (Joe) Cappelli, Victoria Smith, Alexander Smith, Robert Smith, Bridget Smith and Patrick Smith. In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by his brother Jon C. Walsh, sister-in-law Kathleen Delarede Walsh, niece Melanie Milite, father-in-law Michael Smith, mother-in-law Bridget Bernadette Smith and sister-in-law Caroline Smith. Terry was highly intelligent, well-read and quick-witted. He loved solving his daily crossword puzzles, and he was never without a one-liner. Nothing made him happier or more proud than his two children and their many accomplishments. Loved ones continue to echo the words of a dear friend, "He leaves behind two successful, happy children who make everyone's lives better." - November 18, 1945 ~ April 9, 2023

Terry appreciated his Irish connections, so we share this Irish Blessing:

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

The rains fall soft upon your fields,

And, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

As a US Army veteran, Terry will receive a military funeral honors ceremony. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
