Dorothy M. Powlis Comandi, of the Town of Newburgh, entered
into rest on Monday, June 5, 2023. She was 88. Daughter of
the late William and May (Downer) Powlis, she was born April
20, 1935 in Newburgh, NY. Dorothy was a retired teachers
aide for the Newburgh Enlarged School District. She was a
graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and attended beauty school
before working as a teachers aide. Family was very important
to her, especially the “apple of her eye”, her
granddaughter, Victoria. Dorothy enjoyed her trips to
Atlantic City, word search puzzles and she loved ladybugs.
The family would like to thank the staff from 1 East at the
Saphire Nursing at Meadow Hill for their kind attention to
Dorothy. Survivors include a son, James L. (Debra) Comandi
of the Town of Newburgh; a daughter, Shelley (Kevin Coranas)
Comandi; and her granddaughter, Victoria Comandi. In
addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister,
Kathryn Powlis. Private cremation has taken place at Cedar
Hill Crematory. A Graveside Service will take place 1:00 pm,
on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at St Mary’s Cemetery, Marlboro,
Cemetery Road, NY. In lieu of flowers, donation in Dorothy’s
can be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are
under the care of White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and
Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
