Joseph served two years active duty (Viet Nam) in the US Navy Reserve, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the Viet Nam Service Medal with one Bronze Star.  He worked for Local 21 as a refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic for many years until his retirement.

Joseph was a member of the Bethlehem Rod and Gun Club, and the North Eastern Woodworkers’ Association, and coached the New Windsor Little League and Girls Softball.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sally Ann, who survives at home; his son, Brian J. Alessi and wife Tina of New Windsor; daughter, Rebecca C. Williams and husband Edward of Newburgh; grandchildren, Angelo C. Alessi and partner Nina Stout, and Justin A. Williams; and great-granddaughter, Cecilia Isabel Alessi.

Memorial visitation will be held from 3 – 6 PM on Friday, June 30 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. Interment of ashes will take place on Saturday, July 1 at 11:30 AM at Cedar Hill Mausoleum.

Joe’s family would like to thank the staff at VA Hudson Valley Castle Point for the wonderful care he received for those many years, and we are so grateful to the doctors, nurses, and hospice staff at Vassar Hospital for the excellent care Joe received at the end of his life, enabling him to pass with peace and dignity. - July 13, 1950 ~ June 22, 2023
