John T. Conway Jr, age 77, of Newburgh, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday June 22, 2023 at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall hospital surrounded by his family.

The son of the late John T. and Ella A. Howe Conway, he was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, Marist College and earned his Masters degree from Long Island University. He had a distinguished career in the insurance industry working for Crawford & Company, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, Aegis, and AIG where he led the U.S. complex claims operations.

In the U.S. Army he served his country honorably, seeing active duty in Vietnam where he earned the Purple Heart. Throughout his life he served his family enthusiastically, staying connected to relatives distant and near, with his grandchildren bringing him particular joy. The “cousins breakfasts” that he routinely shared with his brother Tim and cousins Steve, Nicky and Greg also meant so much to him.

If you were blessed to have John in your life then you had a friend, ally, and supporter in your corner. While not much for crowds, he preferred spending time really connecting with people. He also cherished his moments of solitude with a fishing rod in hand. He was generous and compassionate, constantly looking out for others, and would encourage you to be kind and patient as you never knew what burdens others might be carrying. When he hugged you, he really hugged you, not just with his arms but with his heart. You could feel him letting you know that he cared for you, and he was there for you. John loved and was loved by so many.

A lifelong resident of Newburgh, he leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Janie Favoino and his faithful dog Sam. He is survived by his children Kristine, Michael, and Colleen. As father-in-law, John so warmly welcomed Kevin, Rachel and Phil into the family.  Grandpa John was so very proud of his grandchildren: Lukas, Jake, Matthew, Gabrielle and Calvin. In addition to Diane Conway, the mother of his children with whom he remained a good friend over the years, John is survived by his brother Timothy Conway and his wife Alice. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers Jason and Charles. - January 7, 1946 ~ June 22, 2023
