Theresa Ann Hoey Beretta passed away on July 10, 2023 at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was 59 years old. A funeral mass will be held in her memory at St. Mary Mother of the Church in Fishkill on Thursday, July 13 at 10 a.m. Theresa was born in Newburgh, NY on February 15, 1964, the day after Valentine's Day and the same week as the Beatles' first appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. She was the daughter of Tom and Mae Hoey.

Theresa, with her devoted husband of 30 years Paul Beretta, raised two sons Raphael and Valentino Beretta in Wappingers Falls, NY. Motherhood was a spiritual calling for Theresa, and leading her family was the greatest joy of her life. Through her occupation at Marist College, Theresa was a mother to many. She worked toward the betterment of young lives in several departments, including Student Athlete Enhancement, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Management, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, Student Activities (just to name a few). Her final position at Campus Ministry allowed Theresa to help young adults of many different beliefs practice their faiths. She coordinated weekly Catholic masses, Jewish Shabbat services, interfaith prayer groups and many community service opportunities including her favorite, the Giving Tree Project at Christmas. Her passionate, loving heart fueled teams across campus in their missions for more than a decade, and her soul was nourished by Catholic mass at the Marist Chapel.

Theresa's playful humor and boisterous laugh lifted the spirits of those around her, especially her dear friends who often strived to make her laugh. Few things excited and energized her like watching her husband Paul perform music with so many of their close friends, especially in beautiful Hudson Valley settings. Theresa loved spending time outside in God's creation; in addition to walking the riverfront and beautiful Marist Campus with her closest friends daily, Theresa enjoyed playing disc golf with her sons and tennis with her husband. She also spent time at her house gardening and screening films outside (often sharing her favorites with invited guests.)

She is survived by her husband Paul, sons Raphael and Valentino, her sister Donna O'Keefe, her brothers Thomas and Robert Hoey, her nieces Amber Moschini and Jennifer Manley and nephews Jonathan Pinkerton, Robert Paul Hoey and TJ Hoey.

Ave Maria! Maiden mild! listen to a maiden's prayer! Thou cans't hear through from the wild, thou cans't save amid despair. Safe may we sleep beneath thy care, though banished, outcast And reviled Maiden! Hear a maiden's prayer; Mother, hear a supplicant child: Ave Maria!
