John C. Velie of the Town of Newburgh, entered
into rest on Friday, July 7, 2023.John was born in Newburgh
on November 23, 1946, the son of Charles and Catherine
Velie. John, a life-long area resident, was a graduate of
Newburgh Free Academy. After high school, he served in the
Air Force and was discharged in 1972. Fifty one years ago,
in November 1971, John married the love of his life, Anna.
John was a long-time member of Teamsters Local 445. He most
recently worked for Sew 'N' Vac in Poughkeepsie. Besides
Anna, John had two other ‘loves’ in his life: bowling and
fishing, especially bass fishing. He was an accomplished
participant in both activities. John was an active member of
the Orange County Bass Association. He and Anna enjoyed all
of the different tournaments, events and the comradery of
all of his fishing buddies. He also cherished his moments of
solitude with a fishing rod in hand. John is survived by his
siblings Cathy, Ken, Susan and Edie; along with his many
extended family members, and all of his nieces, nephews, and
cousins. John is also survived by Anna’s sister, Josephine
and husband Fred. He is now being missed by his faithful
dog, Skeeter. John is predeceased his wife, Anna, and his
parents, Charles (Bud) and Catherine (Kay) Velie. John’s
family would like to thank the ICU staff at St Luke’s
Hospital in Newburgh for the wonderful care he received, and
we are so grateful to the doctors, nurses, and hospice staff
for the excellent care John received at the end of his life,
enabling him to pass with peace and dignity. Memorial
donations in John’s name may be made to the Town of Newburgh
Animal Shelter 645 Gidney Ave Newburgh, NY 12550 There will
be no visitation, and interment at the Woodlawn Cemetery
will be at the convenience of the Family. - November 23,
