Annette P. Matthews entered into eternal life on August 22,
2023, at the age of 95. Born in Beacon, NY on August 3,
1928, she was the daughter of George Washington Place and
Josephine Peterson Place. The family later moved to
Newburgh, NY where she graduated from Newburgh Free Academy
and then graduated with honors from the Albany College of
Pharmacy in 1950. Mom was one of seven females in her
graduating class at ACP. She married Donald C. Matthews in
Albany, NY in August of 1950, and they were married for 68
years until his death in 2018.
Annette lived in Colonie, NY for most of her adult life.
Working over the years as a Pharmacist for Ellis Hospital,
Glenridge Hospital and Belleview Hospital. She also worked
at Behan's Pharmacy and CVS Pharmacy. Annette and Don moved
to New Hartford, NY in 2016 to be near her son and
daughter-in-law, Dick and Holly. We are extremely grateful
for the wonderful care and love they showered our parents
with over the years.
Mom was extremely smart and kind. She tended to be quiet but
always had a smile for everyone. She enjoyed her daily walks
and was fortunate to enjoy good health until six months ago.
There were so many people over the years in both Colonie and
New Hartford who were extremely helpful, kind and looked out
for her. We are grateful beyond words and thank you all from
the bottom of our hearts. Thank you, too, to the kind staff
at MVHS Nursing Center.
Mom leaves behind her four devoted children: Raymond (Cher
Larsen) Matthews in Sandy, UT; Richard (Holly) Matthews in
New Hartford, NY; Donna (Dwight) Roeser in Williston, VT;
and Douglas (Linda) Matthews in Hamilton, OH. She leaves
eight grandchildren: Hanna Matthews, Amanda (Cory) Castillo,
Hyrum (Ashlee) Matthews, Adam (Melissa) Matthews, Alexander
(Michelle) Matthews, Heather (partner Ryan Kelly) Matthews,
Brett (Mika Moore) Roeser and Evan (Laura) Roeser. Nephews:
Ken, Ted and Jeff Henk. She was also very proud of her nine
great-grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow via
pictures and videos.
Annette was pre-deceased by her husband, parents and
brothers: Herman, Clarence and Francis Place. We would be
remiss if we didn’t also mention her sister-in-law, Ruth
Henk, whom she considered as a sister.
A Visiting hour will be held at the New Comer
Cremations& Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY
on August 31, 2023, from 12-1pm with a brief service to
immediately follow. Internment will be at Memory Gardens. -
