Manny Sangervasio of Walden, New York and formally of
Newburgh, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday,
August 24 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was 97 years old. Manny
was born in Newburgh, NY to Rocco and Angelina Sangervasio.
Manny was a WW2 Navy Veteran and served as an electrician on
aircraft carrier Tulagi. He was a member of Cornwall Yacht
Club with his wife Jeanette for many years, and served as
their Commodore. Manny was a lifelong barber, owner of hair
salons, and started a traveling supply business servicing
barber shops when he returned from the navy. Manny was a
driver volunteer for Castle Point VA Hospital, transporting
veterans to their medical appointments at the VA. He later
volunteered at the Castle Point Campus. Manny, with his wife
Jeanette, shared membership in Storm King Power Squadron
Boating Club where he helped teach boating classes and other
activities. Manny was very knowledgeable about boats which
resulted in a boat brockage business with his partner and
friend, Dennis, of New Jersey. Classic Cars were another
interest that resulted in his purchase of his 1990 Buick
Reatta convertible. He attended many car shows with friends
and received his prized trophies. When his eyesight was
failing, his life-time family friend of 50 years, Freddy,
drove his car and they attended many car shows together.
They also drove the countryside for miles and miles. Fishing
with grandsons Ricky and Adolfo, son Rocco, and friend Bill
never resulted in catching any fish, but they enjoyed being
together with shared memories and many laughs. Text
messages, e mails, cards and calls from Julie, Crystal,
Marlene, Carla, Ricky and Adolfo, Ron, Bill, Nick, Tony, and
others brightened his day. Two weekly breakfasts with the
boys were a must do with son Rocco the usual chauffeur at
the diner or Cornwall Yacht Club where Kathy presented a
yummy breakfast. Manny is survived by his wife of 48 years,
Jeanette; son Rocco and wife Carla; sister Isabel Heil of
Los Gatos California and her children, Manny's nieces and
nephews; grandchildren, Juliette and husband Candido Vega of
Newburgh NY, Crystal and husband Michael Guzman of Maybrook
NY, Ricky Gomez of California, and Adolfo Gomez Liendo of
Oregon; great-grandchildren, Veronica, Natalie and Alex;
several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and
goddaughter, Alice Marie McKie of Pennsylvania. Manny is
predeceased by his son Michael, and survived by his wife,
daughter-in-law Mary Frances Hall of Cornwall N.Y. Manny was
well loved and was blessed with a loving family and friends.
