Lorraine Giammattei Barr - Class of 1956

    Lorraine Susan Barr (nee Giammattei), of Newburgh, New York, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the age of 85. Lorraine was born in St. Luke's hospital in Newburgh on August 4, 1938 to Alessandro and Mary Giammattei (nee Ochietti). The eighth of 10 children, she enjoyed close relationships with her siblings and later her extended family of nieces and nephews.

After graduating high school, she married her high school sweetheart William Edward Barr, to whom she was devoted, for 44 years until he passed in 2004. They had two sons, Timothy and William. Lorraine was a loving and attentive mother as well as a career woman. She spent nearly 30 years as an administrator at IBM East Fishkill and during that time won several awards for innovation and excellence, but the center of her life always remained her family. Most of all she was an adoring grandmother to Timothy, Lauren and Patrick Barr.

However, she will always be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her impeccable taste and her culinary aptitude. She loved to cook and bake, and her skill in the kitchen ranged from Seafood Newburgh and prime rib roast to meatballs and macaroni. Her cookies, apple pie and cheesecake were favorites among her family.
She will be terribly missed by her family and all those who loved her. - August 4, 1938 ~ August 26, 2023

Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, September 7 from 4 - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Church at 11 AM on Friday, September 8, followed by interment at St. Francis Cemetery.
