John Caparaso - Class of 1968

John A. "Cappy" Caparaso, 73, a longtime resident of
Wallkill, NY passed away peacefully on September 9, 2023 in
Westchester Medical Center due to a chronic health
condition.
John was born April 10, 1950 in Hudson, NY to the late
Carmine P. and Elizabeth J. Caparaso. He graduated from
Newburgh Free Academy in 1968, attended Orange County
Community College and was a veteran of the United States Air
Force.
John began his postal career in Newburgh, NY as a letter
carrier in 1972. He was an address information specialist
working with regional 911 systems for address accuracy. He
retired in 2004 as Postmaster of Rock Tavern, NY.
John enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, and the NY Mets.
Most days he could be found in his "Wood-N-Things" workshop.
John was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He served as
Grand Knight for many years with the Knights of Columbus
council #9165 and was a Fourth Degree.
He is survived at home by his wife of 48 years, Janice, his
son David and wife Amber, his daughter Heather Vigrass and
husband William and his grandchildren Mark, Emily &
Garrett. John is also survived by his brothers James and
wife Brenda, Joseph and wife Denise, along with several
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John had a great sense of humor, a special flare for
storytelling, and was always searching for a deal! He will
truly be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday
September 15th at Brooks Funeral Home from 4-7pm. A funeral
mass will be celebrated Saturday September 16th at 10am at
Our Lady of Fatima Church in Plattekill, NY.
The family would like to thank the cardiac care staff at
Westchester Medical Center for their compassionate care.
