Lester
Berkelhamer age 93 of Armonk, NY passed away peacefully on
September 9, 2023. He is survived by his children Keith
(Ginger) Berkelhamer and Karen (Steven) Harrison. He was
also the loving grandfather of Katie Berkelhamer, Ben and
Will Harrison. He was predeceased by the love of his life
his wife Hida and sister Jeanne Brodsky. Les was born on May
20,1930 in Newburgh, NY. He graduated from Brown University
and Columbia Law School. After law school he enlisted in the
army and was stationed outside Stuttgart, Germany. He met
Hida who worked at the army base. She was bilingual and
helped him broker a deal to transport a car to the States.
There began their love story. Hida and Les married in New
York City in July 1961 and moved to Armonk, NY in 1969 where
they raised their family. Les was a Labor attorney having
worked for the National Labor Relations Board, Dewey
Ballantine, Borden, Lipkowitz & Plaut and retired from
Bleakley Platt & Schmidt. He loved fishing, boating,
cycling, tennis and trying to keep the woodchucks out of his
garden. Les was a man of a million stories. Many of which
came from his passion to practice law. But the one story
which never got old was how lucky he and Hida were to
stumble upon the wonderful Windmill Farm community in
Armonk. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation
to your favorite charity. A private burial will be held at
Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, NY.
