Ann Louise Stanton Smith, 92 of Delhi, passed away
peacefully on Sunday evening, September 24, 2023 at Robinson
Terrace following a short illness. Born on May 17, 1931 in
Newburgh, NY, Ann was the daughter of the late William
Walter and Matilda (Tompkins) Stanton. Ann was a graduate of
Newburgh Free Academy and SUNY Delhi. She married David H.
Smith on September 8, 1956. David passed away in 2002.
Following graduation from SUNY Delhi, Ann began a career
with the Delaware County Department of Social Services that
spanned over 30 years. She was also a familiar face at the
family business, Smith's Jewelry Store in Delhi. In the late
1980's, she and her husband pursued their passion,
transforming his family home into Parker House Gifts and
Accessories in Delhi, the area's premier gift store. shop
She was an active member of the Delhi Woman's Club, the
Delaware County Historical Association, and helped found
what is now known as the Heart of the Catskills Humane
Society. Ann also was dedicated member, volunteer and
participant in the United Ministry of Delhi choir. She also
assisted at the United Ministry's Delhi Food Bank. Besides
her husband, Ann was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth
Teague. She is survived by her nephews and nieces and their
families: Joel and Marilyn Smith, Philip and Kathy Teague,
Robert, John and Steven Lee, and Andrew and Matthew Teague.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, October
6, 2023, at the United Ministry of Delhi, 1 Church Street,
Delhi, NY. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Ann can be
made to the United Ministry of Delhi or the Delaware County
Historical Association.
