Jeanette Austin Herrman - Class of 1949

    Jeanette A. Austin Herrman, 91, residing on Long Beach Island, NJ, passed away on October 10, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family. Jeanette was born November 14, 1931, in Philadelphia, PA. Her parents, Peter and Jessie Austin, raised five beautiful daughters, with Jeanette being the fourth. Jeanette married John Herrman in Newburgh, NY, on April 7, 1951, and they celebrated 72 years of marriage. Jeanette started her career at Firth Carpet in Newburgh with her father, Peter, who managed the business, then worked for Hartford Insurance and Mount Saint Mary's College. While working, Jeanette raised three wonderful children – Jessica, Greg, and Janel. Jeanette and John moved to Long Beach Island, NJ, for the next chapter in her life, working with her daughter Jessica at The Island Shop. Jeanette was a sought-after employee by Island Shop patrons seeking fashion advice. Jeanette was happily employed with The Island Shop for 25+ years. Jeanette would then snowbird to Delray Ray Beach, FL with John after the holiday season for some sunshine. Jeanette enjoyed hosting dinner parties, visiting Atlantic City with friends for some slots, cruises with her husband John, playing bridge games, flower arranging, and decorating her house to the nines. If Jeanette were cooking, she would make stromboli, cupcakes, or lemon meringue pie. On Sunday, you would find Jeanette rooting for the one and only Philadelphia Eagles with a Cosmo. Her children are Jessica Hoffman and her husband John (Deceased), Gregory Herrman, Janel Silverii, and her husband Chris. Grandchildren are Alex (Deceased) and his wife, Jaclyn. Justin Hoffman, his wife Maureen, Blake Hoffman (deceased), Alyssa Rowell, Marlaina Vaczy, and her husband Seth. Jeanette had four great-grandchildren: Kaleb Hoffman, Conner Hoffman, Austin Hoffman, and Tyler Hoffman, along with multiple nieces, nephews, and many great friends. Jeanette is survived by her younger sister, Rita Coppola, and brother-in-law, Jay. The predeceased siblings are Madeline Repko, Elizabeth Price, and Mary Austin. Instead of flowers, please consider donating in Jeanette's name to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross. - November 14, 1931 ~ October 10, 2023
                Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 17 from 11 AM - 12:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM at St. Francis Church, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
