Marie Valdina Bechtold - Class of 1949

    Marie Valdina Bechtold - Class of 1949 - Our dear mother, Marie G. Bechtold, has gone on to be with the Lord on November 2, 2023 at the age of 93. She was a wonderful and devoted mother and wife and was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing. Formerly of Connelly, NY, she was born in Newburgh, NY, on March 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Guastavino) Valdina. A graduate of Newburgh High School Academy, class of 1949, her yearbook offers the following: "Everyone likes this tidy miss with flashing dark eyes and an oh-so-quiet manner". She married Leo C. Bechtold on July 12, 1958. A homemaker, Marie enjoyed reading, sewing and knitting. She was a Prayer Warrior and member of the Banner of Love Church in Port Ewen, NY. She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Guy Walker) of Connelly, NY, Susan (the late Thomas Slattery) and Ella (Patrick Hickey), both of St. Cloud, FL, her four grandchildren, Miranda, Sarah, Tanner and Collin, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Hadley. Marie is also survived by siblings, Martha Petro, Emmanuella "Ella" Thompson, Frances Diegel, Antoinette "Toni" Waite, Frank and Nancy Valdina, and Anthony and Cindy Valdina, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Leo C. Bechtold, who died January 1, 1987. The family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a service at 12:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Michael Hanley. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
