Mary Elaine Sabo Zamenick - Class of 1960

    Mary Elaine (Sabo) Zamenick of Newburgh, N.Y. passed away on December 1 st at Westchester Hospital with her family by her side. She was 81 years old. Elaine was a 1960 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, which is where she met the love of her life Paul Zamenick. They were married for 59 years before his death in 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Jacob) Sabo as well as her brother John Sabo. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Mercy in Roseton, she played the organ for the choir on Sunday's and volunteered her time cleaning and decorating the church. Elaine worked at several places throughout her life including the Law Office of Norman Shapiro, St. Luke's Hospital and the Middlehope Pharmacy. She began working for the Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters in 1985 and retired in 2004. Elaine also worked at Engel Funeral Home, Inc. for over 15 years where her attention to detail and flower arranging skills were greatly appreciated. Elaine loved gardening, painting, dancing, animals, shopping, and throwing dinner parties, but what she loved most of all was her family. She never missed a chance to tell them or her friends that she loved them. Elaine leaves behind her son James P. Zamenick (Shannon), daughter Colleen Corey, and grandson Paul R. Corey.
               Calling hours will be held from 11:00am-1:30pm at Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, N.Y. on Friday, December 8 th . There will be a service for family and friends at Cedar Hill Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, 5468 Route 9W, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550 immediately following at 2:00pm.
