Julie Ann (Sager) Vesely of Newburgh NY passed away
peacefully in the early morning hours of December 15, 2023
when the clouds lifted and the Aurora Borealis ushered her
to heaven.
Julie
was born on August 11, 1941 to Fred and Matilda (Juracek)
Sager in Newburgh, NY. She was their only child. She
attended West Street Elementary School, South Junior High
and graduated NFA in 1959. After graduating high school,
Julie attended the Spencerian Business School and graduated
there in 1960. She was employed at Newburgh Park Motors
before having children. After she spent time at home raising
her children, she went back to work for the Newburgh
Enlarged City School District. She held many positions
within the District. Starting first as a lunch room monitor
at Chestnut Street School and Union Grove Elementary School.
Then moving to Meadow Hill School where she worked in the
Soda shop, then cafeteria as a dishwasher. Eventually she
became a typist for the District and after 30 plus years of
making many wonderful friends and having tons of laughs, she
retired in 2012. During the summer months of her childhood
and teen years she would spend every summer at Seaman's
Beach at the Sager's bungalow where she honed her swimming,
fishing and ice skating skills. She would reminisce fondly
of her time spent at Seaman's Beach. Her first love came
along in the form of Eugene E. Vesely, whom she met at age
16 on a blind date in Downing Park. They married on October
1, 1961 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. They had two
children, Nathan and Arianne. Julie dedicated herself to her
family and provided them with the gifts of joy and wonder
about the world around them. The family were avid campers,
spending many summers at their camping trailer in Mt.
Tremper, NY and then spending summers at Julie's most
treasured place, Long Beach Island NJ. She has passed this
love of the beach to her second love, her only granddaughter
and the light of her life, Madelyne Ann Lake. Countless
wonderful memories were made at LBI with Maddie which are
and will forever be deeply cherished. Julie will be
remembered for her quick wit, her kind and hilarious
personality, her love of animals, being a voracious reader,
her impeccable taste, voluminous vocabulary, her love of
music and dancing, her knowledge about what seemed to be
everything, her infectious laugh and the ease at which she
was able to make you feel accepted, comfortable and loved.
Julie is survived by her son, Nathan Vesely, daughter,
Arianne Lake and Son-in-Law James E. Lake Jr. (Ed) along
with the light of her life, Madelyne Ann Lake. Julie was
predeceased by her husband Eugene (Gene) Vesely in 2009.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Julie's
honor to Hospice of Orange and Ulster County, The Food Bank
of the Hudson Valley, Heifer International or an animal
cause of your choice.
