Maria S. DeFazio passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023
after a brief illness and is reunited with her wife, Gail E.
Steinheimer, in heaven. She was 77 years young. When Maria
was a little girl, she was a baton twirler and was known as
Little Miss Newburgh. Maria worked for the West Point Mint
and then worked at IBM. After retiring, she resided in a
town right outside of Las Vegas, Nevada called Henderson for
20 years with her wife, Gail. She moved back to New York
with the help of her niece Andrea, in 2020. Maria was known
for her sassy, tell you like it is, personality. She was an
amazing, kind hearted and strong woman that would do
anything for the ones she loved. She had a love for dolphins
and also loved animals. Maria was the youngest of five
siblings and they never let her forget that she was the baby
of the family. She loved spending time with her siblings,
nephew, Vincent Granieri and Great niece, Samantha Granieri.
Maria was pre-deceased by her loving parents, the late
Anthony J. DeFazio and Mary (Vincenzia) M. (Busani) DeFazio.
She is survived by her older siblings, Mildred Garrison,
Lucy Vilela, Carmella and husband Rudy Baird, and Anthony
DeFazio Jr. and wife Joan. She is also survived by many
aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews. As
previously mentioned, she is now reunited in heaven with her
loving wife, Gail, her parents and her beloved Great niece,
Andrea Granieri. Maria will be greatly missed by her family
and friends. - July 14, 1946 ~ December 30, 2023
