Robert Ponesse - Class of 1952

      Robert V. Ponesse of New Windsor passed away on February 6, 2024. He was the son of the late Thomas L. Sr. and Nancy (Alfano) Ponesse, he was born in Newburgh on July 6, 1934. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Allen Ponesse whom he married on April 8, 1956 in the old Sacred Heart Church on Ann Street. Bob graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1952. In his earlier years he was affectionately known as “Bogie” and if you watched him walk away, you would understand why! He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi in Newburgh. He was a forty year employee of the Coca Cola Bottling Company. He split his time at both the New Windsor and Westchester facilities. After retiring from Coca Cola, he worked as a part time driver at Manheim, New York for 10 years. He is survived by his sons Robert A. Ponesse and wife Kathy, Michael T. Ponesse and wife Colleen; daughters Elizabeth Ponesse and her partner Bob Stevens and Nancy Bowman and husband Michael; grandchildren Dara Ponesse, Malory Ponesse, Robert J. Ponesse and wife Kelsey, Anthony Ponesse and wife Kelsey, Kaitlyn Geider and husband Andrew, Michael A. Ponesse and fiancée Hayley Wright, Jaclyn Bowman, Nicole Chrysler, Gregory Chrysler, and Ryan Terwilliger; and great grandchildren Anna Ponesse, Michael V. Ponesse, Caleb Ponesse and Aiden Geider. He is also survived by his sister Frieda Formato and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his siblings Thomasina Tangredi and her husband Frank, Louis Ponesse and his wife Linda, Virginia Martini and her husband Anthony, Genevieve Marotta and her husband William, Thomas L. Ponesse, Jr. and his wife Rose, Carl Ponesse and his wife Joan; in-laws Anthony Formato, Elizabeth and Norman Roberts, John and Linda Allen; and nephews Thomas L. Ponesse and Joseph Marotta. - July 6, 1934 ~ February 6, 2024
         Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, February 9th at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Catholic Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 10th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to your charity of choice.
