John F. Lanspery Jr. - Class of 1949

    John (Jack) F. Lanspery Jr. of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest Sunday, February 4th 2024. He was 92. Born September 9, 1931 in Newburgh, he attended Newburgh schools. He served 10 years in the National Guard, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was employed by Dupont/Stauffer for nearly 30 years. After leaving that, he became the first postmaster at the Algonquin Plaza post office, which he ran with his wife, Ruth. Upon leaving that position, he worked for the Newburgh Unemployment Office, before becoming a security guard for Knox headquarters and the New Windsor Cantonment, from which he retired. Jack enjoyed his daily walks from his home to and around Algonquin Park. He also enjoyed getting away to his retreat in the Catskills where he would sit and enjoy his Manhattans streamside. John is survived by his sons, Peter Lanspery and John Lanspery with his wife, Rene; two brothers, David Lanspery and his wife Elaine, and Robert Lanspery and his wife, Dorothy; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Lanspery and Sylvia Lanspery; and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; his stepson, Scott Helmrich; parents, John Lanspery Sr. and Janet; his sister Jeanne; and brothers, James, Jeff, Ken and Gary. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. - September 9, 1931 ~ February 4, 2024
