Edward Kantrowitz - Class of 1964

      Edward Sam Kantrowitz, 77, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully at his home on February 22, 2024 following a long illness. Born in Newburgh on May 15, 1946, he was the son of Sidney and Irene (Joseph) Kantrowitz. Edward proudly served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Manny Bacon Post #1758, American Legion. Edward loved learning and was so proud of his education. He received his bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's College and his masters degree from Western Connecticut State University. He went on to serve as an adjunct professor of history at both Mount St. Mary's College and Dutchess Community College. He was employed as a Switch and Equipment Technician for Verizon for many years.
On December 10, 1967 at St. Mary's Church in Newburgh, Edward married the love of his life, Linda Chumas, who survives at home. Together, they traveled all over the world and especially loved cruises and their timeshare in Cancun. In addition to his wife, Edward is also survived by his son, Brian Edward Kantrowitz and his wife Stacey; his daughter, Lisa Marie Colton and her husband Christopher; his grandsons, Jason and Joshua Kantrowitz, and Stan Colton; his sister, Rose Ulbrich and her husband George; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Maxine Jennings.
            Calling hours will be held on Monday from 10am to 1pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a service at 1pm. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
