Submitted by Robin (Levy) Bello 1972 on 01/Mar/2024
Michael “Mike” H. Levy was born to the late Max and Helen
(Rankell) Levy, on October 2, 1947, in Newburgh, NY.
He passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 25, 2024, in Sacramento,
CA, at the age of 76. Mike, as he was better known to his
family and friends, graduated from Newburgh Free Academy
High School in 1965. He pursued his collegiate education at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1969 with a
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and continued his
quest of knowledge, earning a Master of Science in Civil
Environmental Engineering. Mike flourished throughout his
career in environmental engineering, working for ExxonMobil
Chemical Company, Franklin Associates, and the American
Chemistry & Plastics Council. Despite the
opportunity to retire, Mike’s dedication and passion
continued with his employment as a Market Area Director in
Sustainability and GHG consulting, with First Environment
Inc., based in Sacramento, CA. Mike successfully
integrated his 30 plus years of experience as an
accomplished chemical/plastic executive, and life
cycle expert, best seen while working and advising
government and trade associations. He has published numerous
articles on these topics, and was most recently recognized
in September 2021, as the recipient of the ACLCA Rita
Schenck Lifetime Individual LCA Leadership Award.
Mike loved to travel for
business and leisure, attending a multitude of meetings and
international conferences throughout the years, most
recently exploring Africa, where he was able to enjoy a
memorable ten-day safari after his conference. In
addition to traveling, Mike also enjoyed leisurely reading,
frequent trips to the movie theater, golfing, and
unconditionally loving his friends and family.
Mike is survived by his
former wife, Judith Levy, sons, Matthew Levy and wife Kelly,
Andrew Levy, younger sister, Robin (Levy) Bello and former
spouse Ernest, nephew, Paul Bello and wife Christina, niece,
Kimberly Bello, maternal Aunt, Florence Handler, and
numerous cousins and long- time friends, including his great
nephew Anthony Bello and great niece Charli (Bello)
Giordano, both who were loved and spoiled unconditionally by
him.
Mike will always be remembered
for his genuine kindness, devotion to his friends and
family, as well as his fervor for life. He was loved by all
and will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will take
place at a later date.
