Lynwood David Sinnamon, Jr. ’58 died on June 8, 2017, at his home in Arlington, Va. Born on Nov. 22, 1935, in Cornwall, N.Y., and raised in Newburgh, N.Y., he came to Hamilton from the Newburgh Free Academy. A member of the Emerson Literary Society, he majored in mathematics and physics, and had two primary interests beyond academics: music and debate. He played in the Brass Choir and the Pep Band as a trombonist and sang in the College Choir throughout his time on the Hill. He was on the Debate Club for four years, serving as secretary as a senior. That same year, he was inducted into the honorary forensics fraternity Delta Sigma Rho.

Relocating to Rome, N.Y., following graduation, Lyn first worked as a civilian physical scientist at the Rome Air Development Center at Griffiss Air Force Base. In November 1961, he married Thalia Jovan in Syracuse. He also undertook graduate studies in mathematics at Syracuse University and by 1965 had accumulated 18 graduate credits.

Several years later, Lyn and Thalia left Central New York, moving first to Falls Church, Va., and then in 1970 to nearby Arlington, where he was employed by Scope, Inc. In 1967, he earned his master’s degree in engineering administration at George Washington University. From Scope, he moved first to General Electric in Rockville, Md., where he acted as a sales consultant, then to Tandem Computers Inc., where he was manager of marketing, and finally to Northrop Grumman. He retired in 1998.

Lyn was continually engaged in community service. For 30 years he was a volunteer at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Clinton for his efforts. He ushered at the Arena Stage as well as at the National Cathedral and the National Opera. In his later years, he was an AARP tax aide, assisting older people with their income tax filings. He also provided support for Thalia in her role as teacher in the Arlington public school system.

A loyal alumnus, he donated generously to the Priorities for Hamilton campaign and served on the Washington, D.C., Special Gifts Committee for the 175th Anniversary Campaign.
