Jean Ann McDermott Kardel, 83, a resident of Newburgh, New
York, passed into eternal life,
with her husband at her side, on Thursday evening, June 06,
2024, in the comfort of her home.
Her loving and devoted husband is Joseph Kardel. Together,
Joe and Jean celebrated their 60th
wedding anniversary on December 10, 2023.
Born on January 20, 1941, in Newburgh, New York, Jean was
the daughter of the late Bernard
W. McDermott and Virginia Ann Galbrath McDermott.
Prior to her retirement, Jean was employed as a telephone
operator for AT&T Telephone
Company for over 34 years. She loved her career and the many
friends she made over her years
there. A faithful Catholic, Jean was a longtime member of
Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh,
New York. As an animal lover, she tenderly cared for the
needs of the feral cats in her neighborhood for
many years.
In her earlier years, Jean was blessed to travel the world
with her husband, Joe. Together, they
visited many countries, sharing beautiful moments at some of
the most historic, religious, and
majestic sites – memories they both held near and dear to
their hearts!
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph; her
brother, Gary McDermott; generations
of nieces and nephews; and her much loved cats.
Funeral Services will begin with a viewing on Tuesday, June
11, 2024, from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at
the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh,
New York, followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Francis of Assisi

Following services in New York, Jean will be taken to the

her husband's original home. There, a viewing will be held
on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from

Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort,
Pennsylvania. A Blessing Service will be celebrated on

Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann
Seton Parish, Swoyersville, Pennsylvania, officiating.
