Frederick MacDowell, Jr. M.D. was born
on 25 January 1929 in Newburgh, New York. He became a Born
Again Christian on 25 December 1979. He went to his Heavenly
Home on June 9,2024.
His parents were of immigrant families. His father Fred from
Scotch-Irish stock, and his mother Ruth Hasbrouck from two
lines of French Huguenots, Hasbrouck and Minard, all of New
Paltz, New York
He is survived by his wife S. Ruth MacDowell and children.
Lynda Frederickson (Jim), Melissa McCollum (Dan), and twin
sons James M. (Celia), Fred P.(Lori), Roland Hochmuth
(Yuko), Ilona Prouty (Andy), along with numerous
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
He was educated in the City Schools of Newburgh, NY. He took
his pre medical studies at Duke University in Durham, NC and
received his Medical Degree in June 1953 from New York
Medical College in Manhattan.
He took his post graduate training in surgery at Kings
County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY from July 1 953 to June
1961. He served in the United States Air Force on active
duty at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, AZ as Base Surgeon
from March 1955 to March 1957.
In July 1961 he opened his office for practice of Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery in Poughkeepsie, NY, certified by
the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of
Plastic Surgery. He retired in November 1991. In December
1991 he and his wife Ruth moved to Edinburg, TX where they
studied the Spanish Language for one year at the Rio Grande
Bible Institute.
In February 1981 he became a life member of The Gideons
International and served in NY in some Leadership
capacities. In July 1 993 he was appointed to The
International Extension Committee of the Gideons
International and traveled for them until 2006 in 35
Countries. Since then he has worked locally in that
ministry.
His Life Verse March 1987 is Mark 1 0:45 "For even the Son
of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His
life a ransom for many".
Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, June 15 at 1
0:00 a.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home, McAllen, TX. In Memory
donations may be sent to Rio Grande Bible Ministries and The
Gideons International.
