Muriel E. (Nagel) Crawford, 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at her home with her family and friends by her side.

Born November 16, 1924 in Newburgh, NY, Muriel was the daughter of the late Theodore and Esther (Mattson) Nagel.

During World War II, Muriel was a nurse cadet trainee and even met Franklin D. Roosevelt. Fortunately the war ended before she finished her training. She went on to become a registered nurse and was employed at the Monroe Woodbury Central School District.

On May 4, 1946, Muriel married her childhood sweetheart, James Crawford in Newburgh, NY. Together they took road trips (they never took the same route twice!!) and visited places all over the country.

Jim and Muriel were very active in the St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Chestertown where Muriel served as President of the Altar Rosary Society. Muriel also stayed very busy supporting Jim who was the President of the Chestertown Rotary Club. They were involved in many Rotary activities and projects through the years. Muriel and Jim were most often found enjoying life and their family together until Jim's passing in 2016.

Muriel was a well-spoken woman who will always be remembered for her kindness to others and her willingness to be helpful. She adored children and animals. Muriel enjoyed the friendships she made playing spirited games of nickels in her community. Most of all, she was a woman of great integrity who always kept her promises, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Muriel was predeceased by her brother, William Nagel.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carol Ann Peterson and Janette King (Bernard); her grandchildren: Craig King (Sharon Anne), Michael Peterson, and Alan Peterson (April); 13 great-grandchildren; her nieces: Willa Rapp (Bill) and Lois O'Dell; her great-nephew, Scott O'Dell; her great-nieces: Rachael Rapp and Dr. Kirsten Rapp; as well as many beloved four-legged companions throughout the family.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls, with Rev. Guy A. Childs, Pastor, officiating.

Rite of Committal will follow Mass at 12:00 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871.
