Francis "Kino" Xavier Howley - Class of 1983

  Francis "Kino" Xavier Howley, 59, an area resident for 30 years, unexpectedly died on October 23, 2024.

Born in Newburgh on January 11, 1965, he was the son of the late Dr. William Payne and Catherine (Woodland) Howley. Kino, as he was lovingly known, attended Newburgh Free Academy (NFA), and graduated from Fordham Prep (€˜83), Fairfield University (€˜87) and New York Law School. He worked as a lawyer for many years and served as a Senior District Attorney for Dutchess County.

Kino was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and was a member of the Fatima Group at St. Aloysius Novitiate. Growing up across the street from The Powelton Club, he spent endless days on the golf course and at the pool throughout his life whether it was with his siblings and neighbors growing up, or golfing with his dad, brothers and friends. Kino was a dedicated swimmer and not only swam for The Powelton Club Team, but the NFA team as well where he excelled in the butterfly stroke. He was an avid reader and a Civil War buff. He also enjoyed writing short stories.

Kino is survived by his children, Catherine Mae Howley of Norwalk, CT and William Payne Howley, III of Hopewell Junction; his former wife, Maureen Howley of Wappingers Falls; his siblings, William P. Howley, Jr. of Beacon, Rev. Vincent Howley of Mystic, CT, and Thomas R. Howley of Highland Mills; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Marion Howley Reilly, Catherine E. Howley, John "Jack" Howley.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in the family plot at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Cancer Society or Lymphoma Research Foundation.
