Edward Thomas Pullar It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Edward Thomas Pullar on December 10, 2024, at the age of 76. Son of Thomas and
Elizabeth (Hannigan) Pullar, he was born July 19, 1948 in Newburgh, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carolann (Cables) Pullar of New Windsor,
NY; son, David Pullar; daughter, Jennifer Fekishazy; his "Baby girl," Michelle
(Pullar) Kent and son-in-law, whom Edward shared an incredible bond with, Marvin
Kent and their children, Anthony, Angelena and Dominic (McCoy) Kent of Myrtle
Beach, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristen and Michael
Fekishazy, and Edward and Joseph Pullar of New Windsor, NY; brother, Michael
Pullar (Marcia) of Hopewell; sister, Elizabeth (Pullar) Downing, Newburgh, NY;
and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Edward was predeceased by his
parents and his beloved son, William ("Bubba") Pullar.
Edward graduated
from Newburgh Free Academy where he was an avid football player in 1968. Edward
entered the Army shortly after, serving proudly during Vietnam, though stationed
mainly in Germany. Edward served until 1974 and was honorably discharged as a
Sergeant.
Edward went on to a career as a telephone lineman with Verizon
for 34 years until his "retirement." Edward's retirement consisted of him
working full-time at Albert Kemperle as a paint delivery driver until he moved
upstate to Ticonderoga, NY. Even with this move, Edward continued to work
full-time as a car detailer at Wicker Ford. Edward joined the Ticonderoga Fire
Department where he was a valuable member, often assisting with BINGO nights and
leading the Fire Police Association. Everyone who knew Edward knew he didn't sit
still.
Edward was an active participant in his community, retiring as
Sergeant from Cornwall Auxiliary Police Department. Along with dedicating
countless hours as an Auxiliary Police Office with New Windsor Police
Department. Edward was also a life member and past president of the New Windsor
Fire Department where he dedicated countless hours volunteering in his community
since 1989. Edward was also a member of the Peace Officers Association since
1989, an active member in The American Legion as well as the Elks Club. Edward
spent many weeks detailing limos or volunteering at Grieco's Service station
where you could always find his daughter, Michelle, tagging along.
Edward
relocated to New Windsor, NY in 2015. Edward, unfortunately, developed dementia
which quickly advanced to Alzheimer's Disease. Edward remained at home, until
his disease was too far advanced, and was then cared for with the utmost respect
by the staff and doctors at the Montrose VA Medical Center.
Edward was a
deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor who will be
dearly missed by all of those who knew him.
While we lost our most
beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Many have lost a friend and loved one
in him. He was known as "The Mayor," and no matter where he went, he knew
someone. Quick to strike up a conversation, lend a helping hand or word of
advice. Edward was a stand-up guy who was well-liked and respected. There was so
much more to him than just a husband and dad (though that was his greatest
roll.)
Services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home. Visitation will be
held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 4 – 7PM with a Firematic Service at 6PM. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 18 at 11AM at
Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, NY, followed by burial with military honors at
Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, NY. - July 19, 1948 ~ December 10, 2024
