Frances Carnright Smith - Class of 1950

From: [X]Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 | Date: 2026-10-28 00:58:53

Frances Elaine Smith (Carnright), of Fayetteville, NC, entered into rest peacefully Oct. 24, 2026, with family by her side. She was 93.

Daughter of the late Jason and Frances (Dulsky) Carnright, she was born April 4, 1933, in Newburgh, NY.

After raising her children, she had careers as a bank teller and office administrator. Frances retired to Little River, SC, then Naples, FL, before spending the past 11 years in Fayetteville to be closer to family. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Newburgh and St. Patrick Church in Fayetteville. Her greatest joy was spending special times with family and friends. She loved to entertain as often as she could. If you were coming to visit, she always made sure she had your favorite foods and beverages on hand. She looked forward to summer vacations, attending our regular Carnright family reunions in the Catskill Mountains, and playing cards and dominoes.

She made fast and lasting friends wherever she lived or traveled, and she was as thoughtful as anyone we have ever known. She was still in touch with friends she had from elementary and high school, even though they lived far apart. She was generous to a fault; quoting her mother that, "You never stop giving to others until God stops giving to you." A devout Catholic, when she could not attend Mass on Sunday as her health failed, she made sure to watch it on television.

In addition to her parents, Frances is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, George; (1932-2004); grandson Michael (1988-1991); and siblings Jason, Virginia, Gaynell, Dorothy, Richard, Carol, Joseph, Leonard, and Mary Ann.

She is survived by her sister Joyce; children, Gaynell Trimmer (Carl Mitchell), Marc (Maryann), James (Kelly); grandchildren, Laura (Jack), Alison, Nicole, Christopher, Nina and Caroline; great granddaughter Kyleigh; sister-in-law Karen Carnright; and numerous nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren; all of whom she loved dearly.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2844 Village Dr., Fayetteville, NC 28304, followed by Committal at the St. Patrick Columbarium. Visitation will be in the Holy Family Room at the church at 10 a.m. Mass will begin at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Frances' wish to always help others, donations in her memory may be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Association of Northeastern NY, 950 New Loudon Road, Suite 330, Latham, NY 12110 or Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer, 415 Crossways Park Drive, Suite D, Woodbury, NY 11797.
