Edward Charles Stotesbury, who lived his entire life in the Town of Newburgh, passed away on April 9, 2011, in his 95th year. He was born in Newburgh on July 28, 1916, the son of Charles and Dora Mystic Lindley Woodall Stotesbury. Ed, also known as Eddie, was a World War II veteran serving time in Europe. He retired after 37 years from the Prudential Insurance Company. He was well known as a collector and authority on lithographs and prints, specializing in Currier & Ives. He often shared his love through loaning his collection for display and through numerous speaking engagements. Ed was one of the original founders of the American Historical Print Collectors Society. He loved to wood carve, particularly birds, and would present his treasured carvings to family members and friends. Ed served as Town of Newburgh Republican Committee Chairman. He was the Town of Newburgh historian for some time, an avid reader and Scrabble player. Ed always had a contagious, positive attitude, and a joke or two for anyone who would listen. His love of Algonquin Park, nature, fishing, life itself - and especially that of his family - was always apparent to all who knew him. He was a good man. He cherished his wife of 68 years, Thelma Jane Irwin Stotesbury, who predeceased him August 20, 2008. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara and husband, William Dabroski Sr. of Fort Myers, FL; son, Thomas Edward Stotesbury of the Town of Newburgh, and daughter Brenda and husband, James Caparaso of Tennessee; grandchildren include William Dabroski Jr., Michael and Dr. Jill Rinehart Dabroski, Aaron and Rosa Stotesbury, Sara Stotesbury, Kelly and Linden Eaton, Lori and Jack, SSGTJames and Kara Caparaso, Christie and Robert Smith; several great-grandchildren, as well as sister, Elizabeth Stotesbury Phillips of Georgia, and sister-in-law, Mary Driscoll Stotesbury of Florida. Ed was predeceased by brothers, John Jack and William Bill Stotesbury. A special thank you to the Valley View staff for the care provided to Ed during his stay. We are grateful for and appreciate the continued loyal support of family, especially niece, Patricia and husband, Gerald Williams. In keeping with his wishes, there are no visiting hours. Ed's ashes will be reposed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. The family welcomes friends to attend a service in his memory to take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W North, Newburgh, on May 14, 2011 at 11 a.m., where The Rev. Helen Lindsay will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity or organization of one's choice. Arrangements by Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh;
