The suspect, Timothy Handel, 39, and Kathleen Connolly, 27, had lived together with their two young daughters in Lancaster, Pa., until Connolly disappeared on July 7. No one reported her missing until July 21. Handel was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge and sent to Orange County Jail. An Orange County grand jury will begin hearing the case Tuesday. Handel, who grew up in New Windsor, recently returned with the girls to live in the basement of a home belonging to Bonnie Glazier, an old acquaintance. Authorities in Pennsylvania credited Glazier with giving police their first big break in the case. She called them when she became suspicious after returning home from vacation to find the backyard dug up. Her unease led her to search the Internet where she discovered stories about Connolly's disappearance. Glazier also knew Connolly, who had lived in the Town of Newburgh and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. "She was always pleasant and nice and a good mother," said Glazier of the dead woman. Her children are safe and in good hands, Glazier said. Replies to this post |
