Message: Joseph "Joe" Ryan Covert, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Sunday, October 30, 2016. He was 79. Son of the late Leo Francis and Gertrude (Ryan) Covert Sr., he was born September 28, 1937 in Newburgh. Joe was a 1956 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and received his bachelor's degree from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. He was a former Industrial Engineer for 28 years with IBM, and was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick's Church where he served as usher. Joe passed after a decade of living with Parkinson's Disease. He was a dedicated family man, married nearly 49 years to his loving wife, Barbara, and was extremely committed to his only child's well-being and education. He will be dearly missed. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Barbara M. Covert at home; daughter, Barbara (Bobbie) Covert of Berthoud, CO and her husband, Jason Brooks; his sister, Jane Kaleel of Sacramento, CA; sisters-in-law, Lea Covert of Waverly, NY and Nancy Vidulich of Newburgh; close cousin, Virginia Aller and her husband, Dwight of Wallkill; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Gertrude Lewis, Joan T. Covert, and Nancy L. Wiley; and two brothers, Leo T. Covert Jr. and E. Ryan Covert. A Mass for Joe will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (www.pdf.org) or to St. Patrick's Church, 55 Grand St., Newburgh, NY 12550.
