Anthony J. Farkas Jr. - Class of 1954

    Anthony Joseph Farkas, 88 years old, formerly of Newburgh, N.Y. passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024. Anthony was born on June 19, 1936 in Newburgh. He was the son of Anthony Farkas Sr. and Anna (Kurucz) Farkas. He is survived by his loving sister Mary Ann Farkas of South Dennis, MA, one surviving aunt, Maria Kurucz of Marlboro, N.Y. as well as many cousins.

Anthony (Tony) was a 1954 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He attended Orange County Community College, The American School of Banking and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. His entire banking career was in Newburgh. He began at the Columbus Trust Company. He spent two years in the United States Army stationed in Munich Germany from 1958 – 1960. He retired from Key Bank as a senior vice president in 1993.

While living in Newburgh Tony was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He served on the Parish Council, Finance Committee and devoted many hours decorating the church for Christmas, Easter and special occasions.

After spending many years summering on Cape Cod he relocated permanently to Dennis MA. enjoying beaches, dining and gardening. Tony loved live theater, music and world travel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh on Friday October 18 at 10AM. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in Anthony's name may be made to Graymoor, Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, 1350 Rt. 9, Garrison, NY 10524. - June 19, 1936 ~ October 10, 2024
