Jean Marie Perran Ellis - Class of 1963
It is with profound sadness that the family of Jean Marie (Perran) Ellis announces her peaceful passing on December 26, 2024, at 5:36 p.m. in Montgomery, New York. Jean was born on October 24, 1944, in St. John's, Newfoundland. In 1960, she moved to Newburgh, New York, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring friendships.
Jean shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband,
Brian K. Ellis (Duby), whom she wed on February 1, 1964. Together, they created a nurturing home for their two children, Lori Garvey and Brian D. Ellis, passing along the values of hard work, unity, and compassion. As the beloved matriarch of the Ellis family, Jean was the glue that held everyone together—a guiding light whose unwavering love, wisdom, and support enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Jean delighted in her role as grandmother to Caitlyn Garvey, Raymond Garvey, Charlotte Ellis, and Dakota Ellis, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with them. Her devotion to her loved ones was unmatched—she always put the happiness of her husband, children, and grandchildren above all else. In return, they adored her beyond measure and remain forever grateful for her boundless warmth and care.
Throughout her career, Jean worked at ShopRite for 27 years, where her warm smile and friendly spirit endeared her to both customers and colleagues alike. Outside of work, she could often be found traveling, reminiscing with friends, or offering a helping hand wherever it was needed. She was especially close to Dottie Kern, whom she met in 1976, and Jeanette Grant, a treasured friend since childhood. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and her laughter—always genuine and wonderfully contagious—served as the centerpiece of countless family gatherings.
Above all, Jean frequently expressed how wonderful a life she lived and how grateful she was for her family and the many blessings she enjoyed. Her sense of gratitude shone through every moment, reminding everyone around her to appreciate life's gifts and cherish every shared memory.
Jean's love of life, dedication to family, and openness to new experiences will remain an enduring inspiration. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral or wake; she will be cremated. In honoring her memory, family and friends are encouraged to remember Jean by gathering with loved ones, sharing stories, and embodying her kind, generous spirit.
Jean will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her. May her memory bring smiles and comfort to those who loved her most.
