Jane Porath Carnright "Nanny" passed away on November 20th, 2024 with her family by her side at St. Luke's Hospital in the City of Newburgh, NY . She was 88 years old and a lifelong resident of the Town of Newburgh. The daughter of the late Harold A. Porath Sr. and Mary M. (Leghorn) Porath; she was born May 23rd 1936 in Newburgh, NY.
She grew up surrounded by a warm and loving family that included her parents and brother, Harold Porath Jr.. She was married to the late Joseph Carnright on January 2nd 1955 in St. Patrick's Church, in Newburgh, NY . She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Patrick's Church. Mary Jane was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. She enjoyed many years as an administrative assistant in the admissions office at Mount Saint Mary College until her retirement.
Mary Jane was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Carnright; her brother Harold Porath Jr. and his wife Vera Porath; as well as her parents Harold A. and Mary M. Porath Sr.. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Carnright; and granddaughters Victoria Carnright and Elizabeth Carnright. She was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in laws Dr. Leonard Carnright, Jason Carnright Jr., Richard Carnright, Virginia Tangal, Gaynell Spiller, Dorothy Rountree Schandler and Carol Van Voorhis. She is also survived by sister-in laws: Frances Smith, Mary Ann Dwight, and Joyce Teramo and her husband John; sister-in-law Karen Carnright; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Mary Jane was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was of the utmost importance to her. She especially enjoyed taking her granddaughters to the park, and spending time at the beach with her family. She also loved all of her pets and treated them as part of her family. She was an affectionate and exuberant woman who took joy in taking care of those around her. She lived a meaningful life, extraordinarily full of love; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial Service and Mass will be planned for a future date.
